Robert S. Schubert, MD

Dr. Schubert’s philosophy is “prevention is the best medicine.”  His practice emphasizes aggressive health screening to find problems early.  When possible, initial treatment begins with lifestyle modifications.  With appropriate diet and exercise many medical problems can be controlled if not avoided or reversed.  Medications are prescribed only after all other options have been exhausted.  Heart disease, colon, breast, and prostate cancer are common causes of death in the United States.  Dr. Schubert screens for these illnesses at every general physical examination. The ability to help guide patients in disease prevention and a desire to care for people is what Dr. Schubert enjoys most about his career.  He specializes in all aspects of adult medicine, but has a special interest in diabetes.

Dr. Schubert began his education at Miami University in Ohio, where he majored in Physics.  He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Ohio State University.  There, he was invited to join Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honor Society.  Dr. Schubert completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago.  He remained on staff at Northwestern for two years following completion of this training, prior to moving to Joliet to join the Will County Medical Associates. Dr. Schubert is currently Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Schubert is currently on the Board of Directors at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center where he is chairman of the committee that credentials physicians for the hospital.  He is also on the board of a malpractice insurance company.  Dr. Schubert often brags that he is “Vice President” of his household, which includes his wife and two children.

He enjoys cycling during the summer with a yearly goal of 3,500 miles.  If you are quick you may catch a glimpse of him on his red, yellow, and black road bike.  Dr. Schubert’s other hobbies include running, maintaining his salt water fish tank, and occasional weight training.  He uses his knowledge of exercise physiology to guide his patients to better health.
